Introducing..... The Pageant Land Team! Get to know us

So who is the Pageant Land Team?

We are a diverse group of Pageant Girls from a range of systems in the UK. We are a group with a total of just under 50 years experience in competing! We are queens and we are contestants. Most importantly, we are a team who want to bring the UK Pageant Community together.

I've asked the team a few questions to help you get to know us more, so lets see what they said...

Felicia

Felicia focuses on Facebook mainly and has been liaising with pageant suppliers for the website.

“Don’t let yesterday take up much of today” - Will Rogers

Pageant wise, my best memory HAS to be winning miss congeniality at the Miss International UK pageant in 2018, I pride myself in being helpful to everyone and a friend and to have that recognised meant the world to me! Personally, however, holding each of my nieces and my nephew for the first time is just a memory that fills me with warmth.

I love to read, I am such a book worm and could probably read for England! My ultimate achievement in Pageantry would be to win a crown. I also want to build my business to be the best in its field!

What Pageant Stereotype would you like to change?

"that black girls don’t win crowns, in my time of competition there has been black girls taking the crown at their respective pageants yet I’ve been told time and time again that women of colour don’t win and that i should stop trying but i want to prove people wrong and show girls and women of all ages that race doesn't determine the outcome in pageantry"

Can you give us a word of wisdom?

"Women aren’t your competition; they are your allies."

Chloe

Chloe has been doing a lot of work behind the scenes with her main focus currently being connecting with systems for our new website, Instagram stories and TikTok.

"you always pass failure on the way to success" -Mickey Rooney

"I’m a full-time teaching assistant helping children teach their full academic potential ready for secondary school! My best memory in pageantry has to be placing 1st runner-up in Miss Galaxy 2020. I would love to represent the UK at the Galaxy International Final and make my family proud. Outside of pageants I enjoy YouTube and Baking"

What Pageant Stereotype would you like to change?

"we just stand and look pretty! Girlllll"

Can you give us a word of wisdom?

"people will stare, make it worth their while!"

Hannah

Hannah has been working with suppliers for the website as well as future project development.

“Throw me to the wolves and I will return leading the pack”- Suzanne Collins

"I am a business development manager. in the construction industry and I love it! I want to work hard, grow my career so myself, my boyfriend and his little girl can live and make some fantastic memories together.

My best memory would have to be exploring parts of America by myself and meeting the most amazing friends. I love to work out and and I am studying nutrition so I can help other girls live a healthier life through my blog; Fit for a queen.

In the future I would love to win the YMI title and be the best queen I can be with my year. "

What Pageant Stereotype would you like to change?

"That we are self absorbed. Many people, no matter how much you talk about all the amazing work we all do giving back to the community, still believe that we are self obsessed which just is not the case!"

Can you give us a word of wisdom?

"learn from your mistakes in life. Don’t blame others."

Kat

Kat has been competing since 2014 where she won Ms British Beauty Curve 2015/16. She is our go-to for inspiration and motivation!

"Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe it can achieve" - Napoleon Hill

"I am a Credit Controller for a Law Firm, Plus Size Model, Blogger, Vlogger, Influencer, Local Radio DJ and Zumba Instructor. I love Dancing, Singing, Music, Musical Theatre and Travelling. I want to travel to as many countries as I can, I also want to give up my day job and make all my passions my full time job!

In Pageantry I have two dream titles. I will achieve them. It may take me years, but I never give up on something I set my heart on.

I have two embarrassing moments that spring to mind! Falling off the back of an open back bus on Oxford Street and rolling down the street onto oncoming traffic in the middle of the pouring rain has to be one of them. And my second would have to be my "Love is Love" contraption which formed as part of my swimwear round for Miss International Curve breaking as soon as I went on stage. Part of it was attached to my thigh...so I had no choice but to carry on my swimwear walk with it dragging behind me!

My best memory however, is no doubt being up on the Miss GB stage and hearing my family and friends cheering for me as my name was called as the final spot in the top 3."

What Pageant Stereotype would you like to change?

"That it is all about the aesthetic. Us pageant girls are far more than "women prancing about in heels and a pretty dress" we are strong, intelligent, independent, ambitious and accomplished women who are all working towards a common goal of making this world a better and kinder place to live."

Can you give us a word of wisdom?

"I am a firm believer in the fact that there is enough space in the world for every single one of us to achieve to success in life. It is all about the law of attraction; Dream Believe Achieve! We grow by empowering others, dulling another person's shine will never make your own light shine brighter. So support others, be honest, have integrity and most of all be kind...the world needs more of that."

Mya

In between getting her degree, Mya is going to be working on some fun projects for social media and you may see her out and about doing some interviews!

'never give up'

"I am currently a Student, doing a Degree in Psychology but in my free days I'm a Barista for a coffee chain! It's great having a job where I can get out of the house, especially where Uni is currently all online!

My most embarrassing moment has to be one of the countless times I've taken a tumble. As good as I am with heels little ridges in the floor are out to get me and make me fall!

My best memory so far in pageantry has to be the day I won Young European International Miss, It was so exhilarating to accomplish something after working so hard for it! Getting to read all the lovely messages back from those who couldn't make it never fails to make me smile!

Outside of pageants, I have a massive passion for Writing, Music and Theatre so I'm always doing something creative if I can! It helps to keep me sane and channel all of the ideas I have running around my brain.

We all have an end goal in pageants, mine is to compete internationally! Hopefully I'll be able to go to my Internationals when Covid clears off I cant wait to finish studying so that I can hopefully in the future a) have a successful career and b) own a House!"

What Pageant Stereotype would you like to change?

"I would love to be able to show that pageant girls are more than just the sash and crown, behind it is a girl with a dream, no matter her platform she wants to do good for the world! There is way more to pageants than a bit of sparkle and a smile️"

Can you give us a word of wisdom?

"remind yourself of all the good things that are yet to come, especially in times like these"

Dionne:

When she's not parading around supermarkets in her fashionwear, Dionne is our 'Pageant Land Presenter', so you will be seeing a lot of her on our socials!

"Believe you can and you're halfway there" - Theodore Roosevelt

"I work the the children’s team at the local council. I also am a singer/songwriter and work with different producers around the globe. I often do live PAs up and down the country as well as in Greece.

I love to swim and most recently have started to enjoy body pump classes; Next year I have set myself a goal of doing 150 swims/pump classes for The Christie. This will be one of the biggest challenges I have set myself yet! I am hoping to become the most physically fit I have been in my life whilst raising money for such an amazing charity.

My most embarrassing memory was the time I went for a spray tan and I forgot my hairband, so naturally, I used my knickers! I was in quite a rush and walked back through town. To my horror I realised my

knickers were still on my head! On the other hand, my absolute best memory has to be, none other than seeing my daughters beautiful face for the first time when she was born!"

What Pageant Stereotype would you like to change?

"A lot of people seem to think you have to have a certain look or be a pacific size or age. Pageantry celebrates women of ALL ages and different shapes and sizes."

Can you give us a word of wisdom?

"You only get one shot at life so make the most of it."

Rachael:

Rachael’s main focus will be the Pageant Land Instagram & TikTok.

"It’s not about perfect, it’s about effort. And when you implement that effort into your life.. every single day, that’s where transformation happens. That’s how change occurs. Keep going and remember why you started." - Jillian Michaels

"I work for Apple full time, but also have my own cupcake business and I am a resin artist! Cake making and making art is my happy place. Otherwise you can find me with salty hair and Sandy toes at the beach with my children.

My ultimate pageant goal is to win a National title, but for now I’m focusing on getting on that stage and feeling 100% confident in myself. Outside of pageantry my goal is to become a Midwife. Pregnancy and birth fascinates me and I’d love to bring babies into the world for a living!

My most embarrassing moment was actually when I first started competing; I was featured in my local newspaper, I went to shoot with the papers photographer on the beach, and as I was posing, my bikini top had unknowingly ridden up. I don’t think I was the only one that was embarrassed, the poor photographer didn’t know where to look! However, my best memory has to be the first moment I stepped onto a pageant stage, I had never find anything like it so it was utterly exhilarating!

What Pageant Stereotype would you like to change?

"I would like to change the assumption that all pageant girls have to be super slim, and utterly flawless. I’m a mum of two, I have stretch marks and a little kangaroo pouch where I once carried my children, I want to show other women they can still rock that stage no matter how old, what size or shape you are and that your flaws are not flaws at all, they’re just you. And you are perfect."

Can you give us a word of wisdom?

"Always be true to yourself, your beliefs and your standards, because you’ll never regret that when you look back on your life."

Lucy

Yours truly, Chief blogger for Pageant Land Online! I will be (hopefully) touching on some interesting subjects to start conversations in UK Pageantry.

You can't stay in your corner of the Forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.” - Winnie The Pooh

"I am a full time receptionist and Administrator for my local GP Practice and a part time Bar Maid at the wonderful Halfway House in Pitney! However, in the little spare time I have that is not filled by the wonderful world of pageants, I LOVE to be creative; I find drawing so relaxing.

There are lots of things I want to accomplish in life but my main dream is to build and/or renovate houses, I have always had a love for crazy beautiful property and one day I will be a part of that. My dream in Pageantry is to represent the UK at the Miss Galaxy Internationals. I made the top 12 in 2020 and it just gave me a taste of what is to come. My best Pageant memory by a country mile has to be winning Miss Congeniality 2020 at the Miss Galaxy UK finals; I ugly cried on stage, I was so overwhelmed to be chosen by the other contestants.

My best memory outside of pageantry is the day my Mum went into labour with my BEAUTIFUL sister. She will forever be my biggest fan and I will forever be hers (regardless of how weird she is and how jealous I am that she got all the height in the family... seriously a 12yo should not have legs up to her neck. Its just not fair!)."

What Pageant Stereotype would you like to change?

"There are soooo many stereotypes that I would LOVE to changte; however my biggest pet peev is those who are uneducated about pageants telling me that we are poor role models for young children and that we are undoing years of Feminist progress. The definition of Feminism is 'equality of the sexes', meaning that we get to make our own choices without fear of judgment or retribution. I choose to compete because it empowers me."

Can you give us a word of wisdom?

"there will always be people who dont like you, who judge you and who dont like what you do. You cant control this. What you can control is how you react and how you handle the situation. Keep your head high and remember that you are a QUEEN"

Jessica

Last but definitely not least; Jess is the founder of Pageant Land Online! She writes for the Pageant Land Blog, works on social media and built our beautiful Website; not to mention keeps us all organised!

"The only person who needs to love you is you" - Jessica Barclay

"I'm first and foremost mummy. I'm a qualified personal trainer but gave up my own studio when I had my daughter. I currently teach virtually. I'm usually working on a few projects work-wise, but with a planned move for next year I've been wrapping up lots of things and will hold off until my daughter starts school in September 2021. I've been running my own businesses since I was 22 and I don't see that stopping any time soon.

The biggest thing I want to accomplish is ongoing and that is to be an amazing mum. My daughter is my everything and I work so hard for her. I'm always reading and watching talks about parenting. It also feeds into looks of things I'm passionate about like health and also protecting our planet, because I want to leave her a planet that can actually sustain life, which it won't if we don't all step up sharpish. Pageant wise I really want to represent a fabulous system at an international final. I know it will happen when the time is right, so I just make sure I use my time as a competitor wisely. You don't need a crown to do amazing things, but it's still part of my dream.

I love most aspects of health and fitness and enjoy picking up heavy things and putting them down again! Partly because I believe I owe it to the NHS to look after my health and partly because it makes me feel badass. I'm very into food; I love learning about new foods and ways of cooking. I've been transitioning to veganism since the start of the year and it's been a lot of fun cooking new things.

What Pageant Stereotype would you like to change?

"I really hate anything that makes pageant ladies look stupid. We are strong, fabulous, passionate women with important platforms. We have something important to say and do. It drives me nuts when that all gets missed and we are perceived as dim or shallow."

Can you give us a word of wisdom?

"Time is not on your side, it's gone in an instant and we are not promised tomorrow. The soon you learn to love yourself and embrace what makes you happy the sooner you can take ownership of your time so it is not wasted."
